Go Green and use the Sunflower Bandana Creatively!!

Ever heard of furoshiki? This Japanese tradition is an effective way of going “green” and using the Sunflower bandana for more than the traditional use! It can be used as an innovative "green" alternative to wrapping paper and plastic shopping bags. Send a photo of you being “bandana creative” to The Sunflower Fund and you may find your pic on our website – be part of the Sunflower Bandana craze...

Even the rain didn’t stop Grove Primary
Grove PrimaryThe children at Grove Primary School, Claremont  collected money prior to Bandana Day, and then went to the Claremont PnP (class reps and 2 teachers) to purchase the bandanas (they were supposed to walk down, but because of the rain, went by school bus) for them to wear on Banadana Day, when they were allowed to wear Civvies to School.  Odessa, CSM at PnP had to 'bust a gut' to get the bandanas, as they had already sold out of the 400 allocated to them!

Benjamin Pine Primary supported bandana day!
Benjamin Pine PrimaryBenjamin Pine Primary has been supporting The Sunflower Fund since 2004 when the first Sunflower Bandanas were launched. The pupils have been educated about The Fund on children needing treatment and how we as a school can reach out and help.  Megan Swart, a Ben Pine 'old girl' is in need of a transplant and we pray that a matching donor will be found for her. Benjamin Pine Primary library teacher, Barbara Meyer has been the coordinator of The Sunflower Fund Bandana Day at Ben Pine since 2005 and this year 650 pupils and staff wore Sunflower Bandanas. Each year we encourage the pupils to come up with the most creative way to wear their Sunflower Bandana.

The dogs from Paws for People cheer the oncology ward at Unitas
Paws for People A very special bandana day visit took place at Unitas Hospital with the dogs from Paws for People.  These therapy dogs are owned by volunteers who work with the frail, the elderly, abused children as well as children in oncology wards which was the nature of the Unitas visit.  These cancer patients who often spend long spells in hospital were treated to a visit by the dogs and faces lit up as we entered the wards.  As the visit coincided with The Sunflower Fund National Bandana Day the dogs donned bandanas and looked very handsome and were real ambassadors for the Fund being gentle with all the patients and playing games of find the biscuit in board games!

Bandana Fever strikes Joburg Day
Bandana Fever strikes Joburg DayThe rain at Joburg Day could not dampen the spirits of the crowd, the artists as well as the Sunflower staff and volunteers selling bandanas!  Amid a fabulous line up including Jesse and Johnnie Clegg, Prime Circle, Jason Hartmann and more with rain trying to interrupt proceedings the crowd were nonetheless enticed into supporting National Bandana day by purchasing a bandana – many of these were used on the day to shield heads from the pouring rain.
