WALK FOR CANCER IN AID OF THE SUNFLOWER FUND

Ruth Strombeck, from Rock Painting, Waterproofing and Construction Co., organised a 2km walk through the Cape Town city centre, on Sunday, 31st January, to honour the victims, the fighters and the survivors of cancer. Specifically to remember her mother Daphne Strombeck, who died of cancer. There was a festive atmosphere, as friends and work companions of Ruth's, dressed in something pink, gathered at Bob's Bar in Long street, where the registration took place, and where the walk ended.  Ruth had worked tirelessly obtaining prizes for raffles, and was donated books and pink champagne - which she sold by the glass.

Families and dogs enjoyed the relaxed, fun walk.  Ruth was donated metres of yellow fabric, on which people wrote messages. This is going to be made into a giant soccer shirt, trimmed in green and white, and will be displayed at soccer World Cup venues. A total amount of nearly R16 000 was raised.
