New adventure sport sews the sunflower seeds of hope
BlokartDeveloped in September 1999 in New Zealand, the Blokart is a light and compact three-wheeled buggy complete with sail that propels adventure seekers over beaches and other flat surfaces, and South Africans who have had the chance to go for a sail, are instant fans!

With dealers in many major cities in South Africa, it is easy for those wanting to join the ranks of Blokart sailors, to be given a demonstration or even a test sail. Blokart races are held all over the world from Russia to Japan. Every year, there is a world championship in which sailors from all over the world compete, and they appear on TV. Each year, the world champs are held in a different county and as soon as we get enough sailors in SA, they could be held here. See www.blokartworlds2010.com for more information.

Racing along the beach on two wheels with the wind in your sails is an exhilarating experience, but just about anyone can master the Blokart. Recently, a 10-year-old boy who had had a kidney transplant only six months before, was off and sailing within half-an-hour of being introduced to the sport.

As dedicated adventurers and fun seekers, members of the Blokart team are committed to living life to the fullest and to mark the Sunflower Fund's 10th anniversary, will be doing their bit to help give those on the bone marrow register a chance to experience the same joie de vivre.

One lucky South African will win a Blokart valued at R17 000, plus an hour's tuition in a national raffle that will see the winner being chosen in January 2011. The true winners, however, will be the people championed by the Sunflower Fund, as the proceeds of the competition will go towards helping this organisation carry out its crucial work.

Blokart tickets - which cost R20 - are now on sale and available from dealers in Cape Town, Knysna, East London, Durban, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Zanzibar and White River.
