The Arch meets The Sunflower Fund’s new CEO

Heading off to tea with head of marketing, Lauren Corlett and executive assistant Shelley Windell might not sound like an out of the ordinary engagement, says Alana James, newly appointed CEO of the Sunflower Fund. However, when the invitation for tea comes from Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu, Patron of The Sunflower Fund, you can only imagine ear to ear smiles and beaming excitement. What an honour to meet the Archbishop and his truly amazing team!

How do you contain your emotions when you see The Arch, proudly wearing a Sunflower Fund pin, amazingly engaging and endorsing some of the changes within our organisation highlighting his support and appreciation for our new tagline – ‘Hope begins with you’.

“It is so important to have hope,” he explained, “especially when one is fighting a life-threatening disease.  Sometimes hope is all we need and when you have the support of an organisation like this one, you know that they are striving to make a difference and doing their part to bring hope to many.”

His gentle manner and lively sense of humour with such a kindness in his words remind us of how truly blessed we are as a nation for his leadership and how honoured we are that he is part of our amazing Sunflower Family.

“Hope is a great thing to focus on, it is hard to do this work, you have good passionate staff, and a strong leader who knows her stuff, you will make a difference.” This blessing from The Arch sets us on our journey with revived determination, excitement for the road ahead and passionate in sharing the hope.
