It was a record attendance of 190 ladies at the 10th Annual Sunflower Fund Ladies Breakfast which was held at the Coastlands Musgrave Hotel on Saturday 12th March. The ladies looked beautiful in their bright sunflower-inspired ensembles much along the lines of the morning’s fun and cheerful programme.
Guests were treated to a two-course breakfast, a fabulous goodie bag, a Lipidol gift per lady, expo shopping stalls, an express spa pamper station, decadent table treats including a sparkling Appletiser and a Chateau Gateaux red velvet diamond cake, three raffle prize package draws totalling R10 000 and loads of lucky draw prize giveaways. Although many ladies also put in a solid effort to don their ‘fanciest headgear’ for yet another chance to win an awesome prize, it was 4-month old Baby Kitana who clinched the title much to the delight of her mum, Melissa Inderpal.
The ladies were further invigorated by the two dynamic guest speakers of the morning, the colourful and amusing Derryn Campbell who spoke about the inspiration behind the release of her second Awesome SA book and Sjanine Tanner who moved the audience to tears whilst relating the story behind the Chasing Inspiration Fund and how it was founded after losing her son, Chase Tanner, to leukaemia 3 years ago. Tanner also stressed the importance of growing a viable local bone marrow registry and even pledged to sponsor any and every guest who put themselves forward to sign up as donor at the event. The plea was met with several guests committing to this end.
Shireen Eraman, former senior lecturer at the International Hotel School and now co-partner and executive chef at Mediterraneo Caterers, was the compere of the event and is also intricately involved with this annual event. Both sponsors and organizers alike could not be happier as an incredible amount of R25 023 was raised for The Sunflower Fund which.
A big thank you to valued sponsors Chasing Inspiration, Mediterraneo Caterers, Coastlands Musgrave Hotel, Awesome SA Publishers, Spice Online Magazine, Wired Media, the South African Hospitality Institute, prize and goodie bag sponsors, volunteers, guests and supporters who contributed to the success of the event.
