The 4th Annual Bikers4Bandanas Motorbike Ride was held at a Killarney International Raceway on Sunday 18 October 2015. A record breaking crowd attended, making this one of the biggest bike rides for The Sunflower Fund to date. This ride was organized by the M.O.T.H. Motorcycle Association (MMA) in support of The Sunflower Fund.
Motorbikers have the most generous hearts and over 1500 enthusiastic riders turned up decked in their bandanas and participated in the bike event, arriving on all makes, sizes and types of motorbikes. Of particular importance, the ride was in memory of Mike Heath a member of the MMA who recently lost his battle to cancer and who was responsible for branding the back-up vehicles for the bike ride. MC for the day was well-known surf-reporter Deon Bing, adding a highlight to the day and the crowd were entertained to live music by “Icon” whilst various stalls displayed their latest biking merchandise, and food and beverage stalls were available to the many bikers and their families.
One stall provided an opportunity to have hair shaved or dyed to show solidarity for leukaemia patients who often lose their hair as a result of the treatment they receive and to raise funds.
All funds raised will be used to pay for new donors to join the South African Bone Marrow Registry and build a registry representative of all ethnic races to help save the lives of patients diagnosed with leukaemia and other life-threatening blood disorders.
